The San Francisco Chronicle Recommends A “NO” Vote on Prop. H
Oct/13/08

Today the San Francisco Chronicle joined a growing number of local publications in endorsing a “No” vote for Prop. H, the multi-billion dollar power grab by the Board of Supervisors. The Chronicle joins the San Francisco Examiner, Asian Week, The Bay Area Reporter and a broad coalition of San Francisco voters in saying NO to this deceptive ballot measure.

The editorial points out the inherent deceptiveness of Prop. H advocates in its lead stating:”

“The least advocates of San Francisco’s Proposition H could do is be forthright about their motives. This is not about saving he planet by increasing the use of renewable resources, or commissioning a study to determine the best way to achieve it.

This is about stacking the deck to achieve what has become the Holy Grail of certain “progressive” factions of the city: a municipal takeover of electrical service from Pacific Gas & Electric Co.”

The editorial also points out the inherent risk of handing revenue bond authority to the Board of Supervisors (who could use this new power to take over ANY utility, not just electric service) without any checks and balances with a vote of the people.

As more and more people read the actual text of Prop. H, they realize that proponents have been saying one thing, while doing another. The cocktail napkin economics and the deceptive appeals to voters are hiding a bad deal for San Francisco’s citizens. Voters should send a message that we won’t be fooled by their tactics and say NO to the multi billion dollar power grab.
